Projects
All Network members are involved in one of the Network’s three major initiatives.
In brief, the three initiatives are:
The Synthesis Project:
A book and 2 conferences with the goal of developing a greater understanding of the current state of education R&D and identifying promising strategies for improvement. The Expected publication date is Summer 2006.
The Meta Project:
A systematic examination of existing education R&D initiatives that have successfully developed education innovations and brought them to scale involving several locations. Included among the R&D initiatives that the Meta
Project is studying are a MacArthur Foundation project, The Learning Partnership (TLP), which engages researchers in collaboration with district leaders to promote
significant reform throughout a single school district; and The National Writing Project, which involves teachers and university researchers working together to address the challenges of teaching writing.
The Information Infrastructure Systems (IIS) Project:
An initiative developed by the Network to model productive R&D and test conjectures about how to do education R&D that promotes ambitious teaching and learning. The IIS project involves the design of a comprehensive set of technology tools and new social practices that are expected to catalyze a culture of evidence-based decision making in schools.
